Sri Lanka Moves to Scrap MPs’ Pensions

COLOMBO (News 1st); A draft bill proposing the abolition of pension entitlements for Members of Parliament is set to be presented at the upcoming Cabinet meeting, according to Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala.

The minister confirmed that the bill has already been prepared by the legal draftsman and is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament next month.

In a further move to reduce privileges, Minister Wijepala also announced that the issuance of vehicle permits to MPs has been suspended.
