COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police reports reveal that 30 people have been killed and 22 others injured in shootings during this year, with a total of 43 incidents reported. 

Of these, 29 have been linked to organized crime gangs.

In the latest incident, a 40-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman were injured in a shooting carried out by an unidentified gunman in Kotahena yesterday.

They have been admitted to the National Hospital for treatment.

Police believe the male victim is a close associate of the notorious organized criminal, Pukudu Kanna. 

The suspect fled the scene following the attack.

In a separate incident in Chilaw, a woman sustained injuries to her mouth after being shot with an air rifle by her boyfriend. 

Police say the boyfriend attempted to commit suicide after the shooting. 

Both are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
