Colombo (News 1st); The strike launched by railway stationmasters has led to further disruptions in railway services across the country.

According to Deputy General Manager of Railways, N.J. Indipola, 52 train services were operated this morning despite the ongoing strike.

However, 10 long-distance trains including those bound for Jaffna, Badulla, and Batticaloa were cancelled.

He noted that on a typical Saturday morning, between 60 and 70 train services would be in operation.

The 24-hour token strike began at midnight yesterday, with stationmasters demanding solutions to longstanding issues related to recruitment and promotions.

Commenting on the situation, Deputy Minister of Transport Dr. Prasanna Gunasena said the strike is unjustified and has caused hardship to the public.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Railway Stationmasters' Association, Sumedha Somaratne, reiterated that the strike was a response to unresolved issues affecting railway services.
