COLOMBO (News 1st); Deputy General Manager of Railways, N.J. Indipolage says that plans are in place to convert the Polgahawela to Mahawa section of the Northern Railway Line into a dual track system.
He stated that under the first phase of the project, the segment between Polgahawela and Kurunegala will be upgraded to a double-track railway.
He added that this initiative aims to reduce train delays and improve transportation efficiency.
Trains operating along the Northern Line frequently experience delays due to the need for one train to halt at a station to allow an oncoming train to pass, as the route currently consists of a single track.
At present, dual railway tracks have only been constructed from Colombo Fort to Polgahawela.
