COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has decided to assign a dedicated officer to each state university to receive complaints related to ragging.
Deputy Minister Dr. Madhura Senevirathna stated that these officers will be appointed under the purview of the Governing Council of each university.
In light of recent concerns, all Vice-Chancellors of state universities have been summoned to Colombo for a high-level discussion.
The meeting will be held under the leadership of the subject Minister, Prime Minister Harini Amarasooriya.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Senevirathna also addressed the ongoing investigations into the recent death of a second-year student from the Faculty of Technology at Sabaragamuwa University.
A team from the Ministry of Health has launched an inquiry to assess any psychological factors that may have contributed to the student’s death.
A team has already been dispatched to Gampola Hospital to support the investigation.
