COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court on Monday (28) heard the case related to the 2008 suicide bombing attempt targeting former President Maithripala Sirisena in Boralesgamuwa.

The trial saw Sirisena himself testifying as a key witness before High Court Judge R.S.S. Sapuwida.

The prosecution, led by Senior State Counsel Dhammika Udawatta, presented evidence in the case.

During his testimony, Sirisena stated that no statements were recorded from him during the investigations into the bombing incident.

Sirisena recounted that after the attack, he, along with his security personnel, went to the Boralesgamuwa Police Station.

Despite spending approximately two hours at the station, neither the police officers nor the Terrorism Investigation Division officers recorded any statements from him regarding the incident.

The case, filed by the Attorney General, charges two defendants under 17 counts for aiding and abetting the suicide bombing attempt on October 10, 2008.

At the time, Sirisena was serving as the Minister of Agriculture.
