Nearly 500kg of Seized Heroin To Be Destroyed

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan authorities are to destroy a total of 494 kilograms and 48 grams of heroin today. 

The destruction will take place at a kiln owned by a cement company in Palaviya, Puttalam.

The heroin was seized by the Sri Lanka Navy in two major operations. 

The first operation, conducted on December 15, 2021, resulted in the capture of 250 kilograms and 996 grams of heroin along with six foreign nationals. 

The second operation, on April 19, 2022, led to the seizure of 243 kilograms and 52 grams of heroin and the arrest of seven foreign nationals.

Following the conclusion of legal proceedings, the High Court has ordered the destruction of the seized heroin.

The police have confirmed that the destruction will be carried out in compliance with the court's directive.
