Court Orders Exhumation of Custodial Death Victim

COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohamed Rizwan has ordered the exhumation of the body of Nimesh Saththara, who reportedly died while in custody of the Welikada Police, for a post-mortem examination on the 23rd of this month.

This decision follows a request from the Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo, which was considered by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The parents of the deceased had previously filed a motion through their legal representatives, expressing suspicions about the circumstances of their son's death. 

They requested a re-examination by a three-member expert medical committee. The court had taken this request into account during the previous hearing.
