COLOMBO (News 1st); Two documents linked to Sri Lanka have been inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register.

The heritage items in Sri Lanka are among a global selection of 74.

One of the documents linked to Sri Lanka that have been inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register is the Panadura Debate of 1873, a collection of four significant texts preserved at Rankoth Viharaya in Panadura. The debate is known internationally for its peaceful and intellectual dialogue between Buddhist and Christian philosophies, and it holds great historical, cultural, spiritual, and intellectual value.

The second document is the Trilingual Inscription (Tribhasha Sellipiya), currently preserved in the National Museum. This unique artifact was discovered in 1911 by a British engineer. Dated 15th February 1409, the tablet was installed by the Chinese Admiral Zheng He. This is the only trilingual inscription having texts in Chinese, Tamil and Persian which represent three different regions and cultures.
