Ranil Summoned By CIABOC Over Chamara Sampath Inquiry

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has summoned former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to provide a statement regarding an ongoing investigation under the Anti-Corruption Act.

This investigation pertains to allegations against Member of Parliament Chamara Sampath Dassanayake.

The inquiry is related to a complaint that Dassanayake engaged in corrupt practices by withdrawing a fixed deposit from the National Savings Bank before its maturity in 2016.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption noted that Wickremesinghe is believed to have knowledge relevant to the investigation, as indicated by his recent media statements.

The Commission observed that Wickremesinghe may have been involved in the sequence of events under investigation.

Wickremesinghe has been requested to appear before the Commission on the 17th of this month at 9:30 AM, bringing any relevant documents to confirm the details provided in his statement.
