COLOMBO (News 1st) - India's proposals for amendments to the notes of the discussions held at the Indo- Sri Lanka fisheries meeting have been forwarded to Sri Lanka.
Fisheries Ministry Secretary Sampath Manthrinayake said that discussions on the matter are currently underway.
The sixth round of discussions on the Indo-Sri Lanka fisheries issue took place last October.
The Secretary stated that India’s proposals regarding Sri Lanka’s discussion notes have also been sent to the Attorney General's Department.
A final decision will be made following consultations with all relevant parties.
He also said that Sri Lanka has proposed introducing alternative livelihood options for Indian fishermen engaged in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters.
