COLOMBO (News 1st); The Board of Trustees of the President's Fund has decided to provide financial assistance to support the uninterrupted education of children from families affected by daily elephant attacks.
The Board of Trustees of the President's Fund had met under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and reached the decision.
Priority will be given to families who have lost a member or have someone injured due to elephant attacks.
Families that have suffered property and crop damage due to these incidents can also apply for this assistance.
Eligible families must be identified by the Divisional Secretary, and the children must be attending school from Grade 1 to the GCE Ordinary Level or Advanced Level.
The affected families must have experienced elephant attacks on or after January 1, 2025, and should not already be beneficiaries of the President's Fund's GCE Advanced Level Scholarship Program.
The program will provide a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000 for a maximum of 12 months for selected children from Grade 1 to Grade 11.
For children in Grades 12 and 13, a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 will be provided for a maximum of 12 months, starting from April 1, 2025.
All Divisional Secretaries have been instructed to collect details of eligible children in their respective divisions and submit the applications, along with their recommendations, to the Secretary of the President's Fund without delay.
