Man Arrested for Cutting Transformers Wires

COLOMBO(News 1st) - Police have arrested suspect for stealing copper wires from transformers in Hali Ela.

He was arrested while cutting a grounding copper wire from a 33,000-volt high-voltage transformer near the Vinayagar kovil along the Bandarawela Road. 

Police have seized 13 rolls of copper wire, believed to have been removed from six transformers located between Bandarawela and Badulla, along with a motorcycle used by the suspect. 

The arrested suspect is a 21-year-old resident of Kahawatta. 

Another individual who was with the suspect at the time managed to flee, and a search operation is currently underway to locate him.
