Bar Association Secures Lawyer Priyanka Samarathunga’s Release

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Attorney-at-Law Priyanka Udayangani Samarathunga, who was remanded in custody, was released from Wariyapola Prison this afternoon following a Court of Appeal order.

A group of senior lawyers, including Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) President Rajeev Amarasuriya, was present at the prison premises. 

Speaking to the media, Amarasuriya said that the BASL intervened to uphold the mutual respect between the judiciary and the legal profession. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the legal profession's dignity and ensuring due process, highlighting the collective effort of lawyers in addressing concerns related to the case.
