Court of Appeal Orders Immediate Release of Lawyer Remanded for Contempt of Court

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Court of Appeal today ordered the immediate release of a lawyer who had been remanded in custody on charges of contempt of court.

The charges arose from an indictment filed by Puttalam High Court Judge Nadee Aparna Suwandurugoda, accusing the lawyer of intentionally failing to address the court with due respect.

Although the lawyer was initially granted bail, she was remanded after failing to meet the bail conditions set by the High Court.

The lawyer in question is Priyanka Samarathunga, a legal practitioner at the Puttalam High Court.
