Discounted Food Packages for Eligible Families

COLOMBO (News 1st); In line with the 2025 budget proposal by the President, the government has announced the launch of the "Timely Food Package" program.

This initiative aims to provide essential goods at a concessionary price during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival season. The package, valued at Rs. 5000/-, will be offered to eligible beneficiaries for just Rs. 2,500/-.

The program targets 812,753 candidates who have applied for Aswesuma benefits. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, in collaboration with the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation.

The distribution of the food packages will take place through the Lanka Sathosa outlet network and COOPFED outlets from April 1, 2025, to April 13, 2025.
