Gang Member Arrested for Multiple Murders

COLOMBO (News 1st); A member of an organized crime gang involved in multiple criminal activities in the Avissawella area has been arrested.

The suspect was apprehended by officers from the Western Province (South) Crimes Division based on a tip-off. The arrest took place in the Galawila Watta area of Homagama.

During the arrest, the police seized 5 grams and 200 milligrams of heroin from the suspect. The 31-year-old suspect is a resident of the Gonapola area.

The police stated that the suspect is linked to several violent crimes, including an incident on May 12, 2023, where two individuals were injured with sharp weapons in Avissawella. Additionally, the suspect is believed to be involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of an individual on May 26, 2023, in the same area.

Furthermore, the police revealed that the suspect is also connected to the shooting and killing of three individuals in Avissawella on September 20, 2023.
