COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Additional Magistrate has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to arrest and produce before the court any individuals, if there is evidence that the death of three-year-old Amdi Fazlim was due to negligence by the hospital staff.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela concluded that the death of three-year-old Amdi Fazlim, a resident of Kotahena who was admitted to the Colombo Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children with a kidney condition, was caused by shock resulting from the complete failure of the urine filtration process and severe fluid accumulation after the removal of an infected kidney.
The investigation was launched following a complaint filed by the parents with the police, alleging that their child died due to damage to the healthy right kidney during a surgery performed after being admitted to the hospital.
Statements in connection with this incident were obtained from the Director of the Colombo Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children and several doctors, including Dr. Naveen Wijayakoon, who is currently in Australia and is said to have been involved in the surgery.
