Former Ministry Secretary Arrested Over Alleged Misappropriation of Funds

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former Ministry Secretary Priyantha Mayadunne was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with investigations into the misuse of Rs. 183 million for the celebration of International Cooperative Day in 2011. 

Police Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga confirmed that the arrest was made under the instructions of the Attorney General. 

The funds were allocated for the Isurusaviya Cooperative Day event held in Kurunegala. 

Priyantha Mayadunne served as the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade.
