COLOMBO (News 1st); Associazione Calcio Milan, commonly known as AC Milan, has announced the launch of the Milan Junior Camp project in Sri Lanka.
This initiative, the first of its kind in the country, will make stops in Colombo, Galle, and Jaffna at the beginning of next month.
Founded in 1899, AC Milan is one of the most successful football clubs in the world, with a rich history and a prestigious reputation. The Milan Junior Camp project in Sri Lanka is a significant step in the global development of the initiative, following a summer that saw the project expand to 23 cities across North America and Europe.
The project has been made possible through a partnership with the Academy of Colombo Athletic and Football Club. It aims to provide young athletes, both boys and girls aged between 5 and 17, with the opportunity to develop their football skills and knowledge under the guidance of experienced coaches from AC Milan.
Davide Battistini, Academy Coach at AC Milan, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: "We all know that AC Milan represents a heritage in the world of football. I'm very proud to be here to bring my experience and the experience of a club with hundreds of years of incredible successes. Our goal is to develop the most successful activity for Sri Lankan football, considering the passion that the people here have for the game."
Ajai Vir Singh, President of Colombo Athletic and Football Club, shared his gratitude: "It was a far-fetched dream to bring AC Milan to Sri Lanka, but now it has become a reality. I'm hoping this will make a positive impact in changing the landscape of football in Sri Lanka."
Damiano Francovigh, Ambassador of Italy for Sri Lanka and Maldives, highlighted the cultural significance of the initiative: "Sport, and football in particular, is part of the Italian way of life. AC Milan is an ambassador of Italy worldwide. This initiative will build an additional strong bond between our two countries."
The program will kick off on January 31, 2025, with a workshop for local coaches and stakeholders, who will receive tailored technical training with the support of AC Milan's expertise. The Colombo Athletic and Football Club has partnered with several brands, including Fox Jaffna, to support this initiative.
