COLOMBO (News 1st) - The State Trading Corporation says that 4,500 metric tons of salt ordered from India will arrive in Sri Lanka on January 27.
Chairman Ravindra Fernando said that the first batch of imported salt will be received by the country.
An additional 12,500 metric tons are scheduled to be imported by January 31.
Two importers have been granted permission to bring in salt from India.
Government decided to import salt following challenges faced by local salterns during the recent monsoon season.
