COLOMBO (News 1st) - The State Trading Corporation says that an order has been placed to import another 20,800 metric tons of Nadu rice.
The corporation’s chairman, Ravindra Fernando, confirmed that these stocks of rice will be imported based on the demand in the market.
Sri Lanka customs is due to release 3,900 metric tons of Nadu rice that were imported into the country.
This brings the total amount of rice imported and distributed by the government to approximately 5,200 metric tons.
According to Sri Lanka Customs, over 67,000 metric tons of rice have been cleared so far, including 66,000 metric tons of raw rice and 1,000 metric tons of parboiled rice.
The import period granted for the import of rice ended at midnight yesterday.
