First Parliamentary Session of the Year to Take Place Today

COLOMBO (News 1st): The first parliamentary session of the new year will be held today, under the leadership of Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

Parliament sessions will continue this week until the 10th of January.

Today's session will begin at 9:30 AM.

From 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, time will be allocated for oral questions, followed by a debate on the 2024 mid-year fiscal report.

Tomorrow morning, time will be set aside for questions directed to the Prime Minister.

This will be followed by debates on several issues, including regulations under the Imports and Exports Act, and regulations under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Act.

On the 9th of January, debates will be held on provisions under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act, Special Goods And Services Tax Act, and Welfare Benefits Act.

On Friday, January 10th, the entire day will be dedicated to expressing condolence motions for the late former Members of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government says that the amended Provincial Council Election Bill will be presented in Parliament this week.

Minister Professor Chandana Abeyratne mentioned that the Bill has already been gazetted.
