COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Acting Inspector General of Police has instructed all police officers to enforce the law against vehicles equipped with illegal modifications, such as multi-colored flashing lights and various sound patterns used for horns.
Acting Inspector General Priyantha Weerasooriya announced that, in line with the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, these inspections aim to ensure road safety and traffic control.
These checks will be conducted daily until further notice.
Police officers have been directed to also look for vehicles with loud silencers, noisy exhaust systems, and other hazardous modifications.
The Acting Inspector General emphasized that such illegal modifications can endanger both the occupants of the vehicles and pedestrians.
He also noted that ignoring these violations has led to public dissatisfaction and tarnished the reputation of the Sri Lanka Police.
To address this, he has ordered that each police division conduct two operations daily, each lasting three hours, to identify and take action against such vehicles.
