COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Ports Authority is pursuing compensation from the company that owns the ship which caught fire while anchored at the port of Colombo.

Chairman Keith D. Bernard stated that negotiations will be held with the ship's local representatives and the shipping company to address the damages.

The fire broke out early yesterday morning on the Singaporean cargo ship MSC Cape Town 3, which had docked at the JCT 4 jetty after arriving from Singapore.

The fire was extinguished with the assistance of the Fire Services Department.

Chairman Bernard mentioned that one container, suspected of containing potassium chemicals, was promptly removed, and additional containers at risk were also taken out.

The ship, owned by a Geneva-based shipping company, was scheduled to unload 995 containers and load 880 containers at the port.
