COLOMBO (News 1st) - Public Health Inspectors Union says that a coconut oil scam is ongoing where used coconut oil are refined and released into the market.
According to the general secretary of the union, Chameera Muthukuda, there have also been reports of adulterated spices including chili powder, curry powder, and turmeric being sold to the public.
Public health inspectors launched raids starting from December 1st, to ensure health standards are met in the festive season.
Chameera Muthukuda said that over 5,000 shops have been inspected and 450 shops have been prosecuted for selling food unsuitable for consumption.
