(COLOMBO News 1st) - Secretary of the New Democratic Front, Attorney-at-Law Sharmila Perera says that Ravi Karunanayake’s appointment to the National List is a decision made in accordance with the agreement reached with allied parties of the NDF.

Issuing a statement, she pointed out that the appointment was unanimously approved by the party's Executive Committee, which convened on the 17th of November.

The Podujana Eksath Nidahas Peramuna, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, People's Alliance, the New Alliance, and the United National Party are constituent parties of the New Democratic Front.

The New Democratic Front, in agreement with its allied parties, decided to contest the recent election under the gas cylinder, replacing the party's registered symbol of the swan.

Additionally, certain amendments to the party's constitution have also been agreed upon.

Party Secretary Attorney Sharmila Perera further emphasized that
the allied parties have agreed to allocate at least one National List seat to a candidate nominated by the New Democratic Front, based on the election results.

Although the national list MPs were supposed to be finalized by the 18th, she pointed out that representatives of the other allied parties had not informed her of their nominations.

The Secretary says that, accordingly, Ravi Karunanayake was nominated for one of the two National List MP positions secured in this election, and his name was submitted to the Election Commission.

She further highlighted in her statement that Ranil Wickremesinghe was informed about the party's decision regarding this nomination before it was submitted to the Election Commission.

In addition, she criticized certain groups and individuals, not part of the coalition, who lack a voter base, frequently switch parties, and exhibit unethical behavior.

She emphasized that responding to their baseless remarks is a waste of time and urged such individuals to look in the mirror and reflect on themselves.
