Rapid Response Unit Deployed as Measles Resurfaces in Sri Lanka.

COLOMBO (News 1st):

The Ministry of Health stated that a rapid response unit has been deployed to mitigate the spread of measles that was previously eradicated from the country.

The unit will be in operation from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The general public can obtain information about epidemic situations through the telephone numbers: 011-744 65 13, 011-768 27 22, 011-768 28 72, or 011-768 26 62.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health informs people who have not received both doses of the measles vaccine to get vaccinated immediately.

One infected measles patient could spread the disease among 19 others.

In 2019, the World Health Organization declared Sri Lanka a country that has eradicated measles.
