COLOMBO (News 1st); The new Sri Lankan government has reaffirmed its commitment to the International Monetary Fund (IMF)-supported program, in-terms of achieving fiscal and debt targets, said Krishna Srinivasan, the IMF Director for the Asia Pacific Department.

Srinivasan noted that following the new government's inauguration, an IMF mission visited Sri Lanka and held productive discussions with the president and his team.

These discussions underscored the significant progress Sri Lanka has made under the program and the importance of safeguarding these gains while building on the success achieved so far.

"The new government is fully committed to the IMF-supported program, both in terms of the fiscal targets and debt targets," Srinivasan stated.

He emphasized that good progress has been made, and ongoing discussions are set to continue.

A Sri Lankan team recently visited Washington to further these discussions, and an IMF mission will soon return to Sri Lanka for the next review.
