Viral Disease Spreads Among Pigs, Health Officials Urge Protective Measures

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Director of the the Department of Animal Production and Health Dr. Hemali Kotalawala said that a viral disease related to the reproductive and respiratory system is spreading among pigs these days.

The Department says that measures are being taken to vaccinate all pigs to protect them from this viral disease.

She also said that pigs infected with the disease have been identified in many areas including the Western, North-Western and North Central provinces. 

The transport of pigs across provinces has been suspended to stop the spread of the disease. 

Dr. Hemail Kothalawala warned the general public against consuming the meat of pig who have died as a result of this disease.
