COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendige has ordered the suspension of several bank accounts held by former Member of Parliament Anupa Pasqual for a period of three months.
This decision was made following a request from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) under the Anti-Corruption Act.
The suspension, effective until January 10th, 2025, was issued in response to ongoing investigations into allegations of suspiciously acquired funds.
CIABOC officials informed the court that the accounts were initially frozen for seven days as part of the preliminary investigation under the Anti-Corruption Act.
Given the need for further investigation, CIABOC requested an extension of the suspension for an additional three months.
Judge Patabendige granted this request, emphasizing that no transactions can be conducted through these accounts during the suspension period, in accordance with Section 53(4) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023.
