COLOMBO (News 1st ) - Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara has directed a letter to the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board to suspend and launch disciplinary action against the workers who recently held a strike, obstructing the supply of electricity, which is an essential service.

According to the letter, the CEB workers strike from January 3 - 5 resulted causing inconveniences to the public. Complaints were also filed that payment counters were shut down due to the strike.

Minister Kanchana highlighted that these incidents were reported while all services related to the supply of electricity were declared essential via an extraordinary gazette.

The letter also added that the CEB administration had canceled the leave of all workers on January 2. Against such a backdrop, the workers went on strike without reporting to work.

The Minister instructed the CEB Chairman to inform the Minister of Power and Energy of such employees, suspend them, and launch disciplinary action against them.
