President Addresses the Nation: A Vision for Unity and Progress

COLOMBO (News 1st) - In his inaugural address, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed profound gratitude to the citizens of Sri Lanka, emphasizing a vision of unity and progress.

Speaking to a diverse audience, including the esteemed Maha Sangha and religious leaders, he dedicated his victory to all citizens, aiming to bring joy even to those who may not have shared his vision.

"We honour and remember the courageous men and women of previous generations who made sacrifices," the President said, recognizing the historical sacrifices that paved the way for this moment. He affirmed that the current administration is prepared to shoulder the responsibility of building the nation as a united team, determined to fulfill the expectations of the people.

The President outlined immediate plans to negotiate with the International Monetary Fund to stabilize the economy and advance debt restructuring efforts. He expressed confidence in gaining support from both citizens and the international community, believing that collective efforts would lead to success.

Highlighting the commitment to eliminate negative traits in political culture, Anura Dissanayake pointed out the peaceful conduct of the recent presidential election as a testament to the trust placed in his administration. He urged all citizens, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds, to unite under the banner of Sri Lankan citizenship, promising necessary reforms to create an inclusive environment.

The President announced a permanent program to build a unified nation that respects diversity, aiming to end divisions based on race, religion, class, and caste. He stressed the importance of an efficient and honest public service, dedicated to the welfare of all citizens.

"Our goal is to improve the standard of living for the people," he affirmed, committing to practical programs that alleviate the burdens faced by families. He promised that no parent should worry about their child's future, pledging to ensure quality education for all.

Addressing the significance of national identity, he envisioned a Sri Lanka where every citizen takes pride in their citizenship, stating, "We aim to build a country where citizenship is a source of pride for all."

President Dissanayake also highlighted the importance of social justice, women's representation, and support for individuals with disabilities, reiterating that no group would be overlooked in the journey toward progress.

He concluded his address by emphasizing the need for a Parliament that accurately reflects the people's will, announcing the dissolution of the current Parliament and the appointment of a cabinet in line with constitutional guidelines.
