Sri Lanka’s President Dissanayake Takes Helm of Defence, Finance

COLOMBO (News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has taken on several critical ministerial portfolios.

The President will now oversee Defence, Finance, Economic Development, Policy Planning, Tourism, Energy, Agriculture, Lands, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries, and Aquatic Resources.

Vijitha Herath was also sworn in today as a minister.

He was assigned the ministries of Buddhist Affairs, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security, Media, Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, Public Security, and Foreign Affairs.

Earlier, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya was sworn in today as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka in the presence of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

In addition to her role as Prime Minister, Dr. Amarasuriya was appointed as the Minister of Justice, Education, Labour, Industries, Science and Technology, Health, and Investments.

She is the third female Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
