COLOMBO (News 1st); Train services between Kankasanthurai and Anuradhapura have been halted following a protest by railway operators who did not report for duty.

The disruption began this morning, as confirmed by Deputy General Manager of Railways, AJM Idipolage.

The protest stems from an incident involving the theft of a helmet from a motorcycle parked at the Anuradhapura railway station.

Idipolage explained that the controllers' decision to abstain from work is directly linked to this security lapse.

In an inquiry by News First, MSK Thilakaratne, President of the Railway Controllers Association, highlighted the lack of security at the motorcycle parking area.

He emphasized that the missing helmet belonged to one of the controllers and stated that the controllers would not resume their duties until adequate security measures are implemented.
