COLOMBO (News 1st); The Lifesaving World Championships 2024, held in Gold Coast, Australia, concluded with remarkable achievements from Sri Lankan athletes, showcasing their dedication and skill on the global stage.



Sri Lanka's national teams set four new national records in the 4x25m Manikin Relay and 4x50m Medley Relay. 



The boys' team, comprising Dilanka Shehan, Senal Pathirathna, Nimuthu Perera, Hiruna De Silva, and Rojitha Thilakaratna, along with the girls' team of Sinali Rajapaksa, Vinuki Perera, Thenushi Kalawitigoda, and Sandali Sumathipala, demonstrated exceptional teamwork and athleticism.



In individual events, Dilanka Shehan achieved a world ranking of 17th in the Surf Race, while Sachendra Ramesh emerged as the Asian Champion in the 2km Beach Run, securing 9th place in the Inter-Club World Rankings.



Additionally, both the men's and women's teams excelled in the 12.5m Line Throw, with Nimuthu Perera and Senal Pathirathna, and Sinali Rajapaksa and Thenushi Kalawitigoda, respectively, earning the title of Asian Champions and ranking 8th in the Inter-Club World Rankings.



New Sri Lankan records were also set by individual athletes. 



Dilanka Shehan set a new record in the 100m Manikin Tow with Fins, Thenushi Kalawitigoda in the 50m Manikin Carry, Sandali Sumathipala in the 100m Manikin Tow with Fins, and the duo of Sinali Rajapaksa and Thenushi Kalawitigoda in the 12.5m Line Throw.
