Ranil Accuses AKD of Threatening Jaffna; Demands Apology to the People

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Independent presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for Anura Kumara Dissanayake to apologize to the people of Jaffna.

Ranil Wickremesinghe claimed that Anura Dissanayake, a candidate from the National People's Power (NPP), has threatened the northern electorate in a recent speech.

At a rally in Vadukoddai, Jaffna, he condemned Dissanayake's comments, which suggested that opposing the NPP could lead to negative judgments from the South.

He reminded the audience of previous election cycles where Jaffna's votes diverged from those of the South, yet no violence or retribution ensued.

He urged Anura Kumara Dissanayake to apologize to both the people of Jaffna and the Sinhalese for his remarks, labeling the behavior as disgraceful.
