COLOMBO (News 1st); Namal Rajapaksa, the SLPP Presidential Candidate, outlined his ambitious vision for transforming Sri Lanka into a developed nation.

Emphasizing the need for responsible governance, Rajapaksa stated, “We are not a political force that shirks its responsibilities for petty gains. We are entrusted with the mission of transforming our country into a developed nation.”

Rajapaksa set a clear economic target, aiming to double the country’s GDP over the next decade. “Our economy, currently around 85 billion, must be transformed into one worth 180 billion or more, and we are committed to this goal,” he asserted.

Central to his strategy is the digitization of the state sector. Within six months of forming the government, Rajapaksa plans to leverage the Digital ID to digitize public services, enhancing efficiency and transparency. He also promised an affordable tax regime, focusing solely on direct taxes and eliminating indirect taxes.

Addressing corruption, Rajapaksa confidently stated, “Campaign slogans about fraud and corruption will be a thing of the past in upcoming elections.” He also committed to creating two million direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Energy security and green hydrogen transformation are key components of his vision. Rajapaksa aims to turn Sri Lanka into an energy-exporting economy in collaboration with the private sector within the next decade.

The health sector, which faces significant challenges, will be strengthened to meet demands. Rajapaksa also pledged to modernize the Samurdhi movement and align the entire economic structure with modern standards to achieve rapid growth.

“The youth aspire for innovation and to build their future in their homeland. We are building a government for the new generation, aiming to make our country the most developed in Asia,” Rajapaksa concluded.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna is dedicated to developing the country for its people, and Rajapaksa invites everyone to join him in this vision.
