Crowds gather outside Passport office again

COLOMBO (News1st); A large number of people arrived at the Department of Immigration and Emigration head office in Battaramulla on Wednesday (28) to obtain passports.

Passports will be issued based on the order of arrival, from Wednesday (28).

Recently, the Department of Immigration and Emigration had imposed restrictions on the issuance of passports, due to a limited supply of empty passports. 

As a result, heavy congestion was reported near the Department head office on Tuesday (27), followed by a heated situation.

The new first-come, first-served approach aims to streamline the process and manage the demand more effectively.

News1st correspondent said the Police intervened and commenced registering people to obtain passports.
