Colombo (News 1st) - Eran Wickramaratne, Member of Parliament from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has raised concerns about the increasing poverty levels in Sri Lanka amidst ongoing economic reforms.
Speaking on the current socio-economic environment, Wickramaratne emphasized the significant rise in the number of people living below the poverty line, which has surged from approximately 3 million to around 7 million.
Wickramaratne acknowledged that while the government has met several targets set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), these achievements have come at a substantial social cost.
He highlighted the severe impact on the population, noting that many individuals have been pushed to the brink, struggling to endure the harsh economic conditions.
