SLCERT warns of increase in Online Theft of Private Information

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team or SLCERT warns of an increase in online theft of private information via fake websites in Sri Lanka. 

Senior Information Technology engineer Charuka Damunupola said that so far this year 2542 complaints related to such incidents have been lodged with SLCERT. 

414 of the said complaints have been in relation to fake websites. 

Senior Information Technology engineer Charuka Damunupola said that the increase in the theft of private information via fake websites may have increased as Sri Lanka is currently in election season. 

He requested the general public to refrain from disclosing personal information such a NIC numbers and bank details on unverified websites.
