Prison Guard With Weapons Linked To 'Gotha Asanka'

COLOMBO (News 1st); A prison guard arrested in Rajagiriya with firearms has been detained for seven days and will be interrogated, according to the Police Narcotics Bureau. 

The firearms and weapons found in the suspect's possession are believed to belong to 'Gotha Asanka', a member of a criminal gang.

The Police Narcotics Bureau conducted the raid based on a tip-off, leading to the arrest of the prison officer on Saturday night.

During the raid, authorities discovered a T56 firearm, a magazine of ammunition, a pistol, and another magazine of ammunition.

Additionally, a stock of drugs was found in the suspect's possession.

The Police Narcotics Bureau has also received information that 'Gotha Asanka' is currently abroad.
