Postal Voting Deadline Extended in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st): A total of 17 Presidential hopefuls have placed cash deposits with the Election Commission to run for the highest office in the country.

The Election Commission extended the acceptance period for postal voting applications until the 9th.

Initially scheduled to close at midnight yesterday, the deadline extension comes in response to a significant reduction in the number of applications received.

According to Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake, applicants now have additional time to submit their postal voting applications. These applications can be submitted at the designated district election offices.

In a related announcement, the Election Commission clarified that registered voters are cannot vote at any polling station across the island.

The notice, signed by Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake, emphasized that voters must cast their ballots only at the polling station corresponding to their registered locality in the voter’s list.

Additionally, postal voters are advised to cast their votes at the office of their certifying officer.
