Notice Sent To Sec. Def. & Deshabandu

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Supreme Court ordered personal notices to be served to Deshabandu Tennakoon, Defense Secretary -Retired General Kamal Gunaratne, and the National Police Commission. 

These notices require their appearance in court on August 9.

The issuance of these notices is in response to a fundamental rights petition filed by retired Senior Superintendent of Police, Shani Abeysekera, the former director of the Criminal Investigation Department. 

Abeysekera seeks increased security due to a threat to his life.

Supreme Court justices Vijith Malalgoda, Murdu Fernando, and Yasanta Kodagoda considered the matter.

President's Counsel Upul Jayasuriya, representing petitioner Shani Abeysekara, emphasized the gravity of the situation, and given the existing threat, urged the court to enhance protective measures for Abeysekara's safety.
