UNP, SLPP Ex-PC Members Back Ranil

COLOMBO (News 1st); A group of 116 former Provincial Council members from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna & the United National Party pledged their commitment to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe's victory in the upcoming presidential election, said the President's Media Division on Wednesday (31).

Addressing a meeting with former Provincial Council members, President Wickremesinghe declared his candidacy as an independent in this year's presidential election pledging his commitment to advancing the country with a bold new vision & an impartial programme, aiming to drive development through 09 Provincial Governments & the Central Government, reported the PMD.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe also expressed his strong condemnation of the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh & stated unequivocally that he would never condone such actions.
