COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Police Commission has rejected the Inspector General of Police's request for the immediate transfer of 210 police officers.
The decision was made because the relevant recommendations were not made in accordance with transfer policies.
The NPC informed the IGP that transferring such a large number of officers with the upcoming presidential election is not advisable.
However, the Commission approved the transfer of 24 officers after considering disciplinary proceedings and medical recommendations.
The National Police Commission has recommended that 14 Police OICs be removed from their posts and demoted to regular duties, adding that an immediate disciplinary investigation should be conducted with relevant reports.
During investigations, the officers will be exempt from disciplinary action if approved. Additionally, they will be appointed to a position similar to the one held before.
The Police Commission said that it also approved the request to remove eight Police OICs from their current positions and assign them to regular duties.
The Police Commission has also granted transfer requests from eight Police Station Officers to regular duties and approved the transfers of two officers based on their medical situation.
