COLOMBO (News1st); Train operations have been severely disrupted owing to the strike launched by station masters and other railway employees.

Railway Traffic Superintendent N.J. Indipolage said limited office trains will operate on Wednesday (10) morning.

The strike was launched at midnight on Tuesday (09) based on several demands including promotions.

General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters' Union Sanjaya Jayasundara said they held discussions with the Railways General Manager and officials at the Department of Railways since June 2024 regarding several issues faced by station masters, adding however that they're yet to receive a favourable response.

All night mail trains were canceled on Tuesday (09) night due to the station masters' strike.

The Department of Railways said arrangements were made to ensure season ticket holders will be able to use the same ticket for Sri Lanka Transport Board buses today, due to the ongoing strike.

Issuing a statement, the Railways General Manager said station masters who don't report to work on Wednesday (10) will be considered as having left the service.
