COLOMBO (News 1st); The Election Commission emphasized that despite the postponement of the local government election, the local government election law remains in effect.

It added that during this period, it is crucial to refrain from promoting any political party, candidate, or group.

The Election Commission noted that Circular No. 2, issued on January 5th, 2023, addresses the improper use of state property and regulations related to the recruitment, promotion, and transfer of officials.

It added that violating these guidelines by engaging in actions that favor or prejudice political parties and candidates is a punishable offense.

Furthermore, the Commission underscored that utilizing nominated candidates for such purposes violates constitutional provisions, election laws, and circulars.
