Sri Lankan Diplomats Head to Russia to Probe Retired Soldiers' Role in Ukraine War

COLOMBO (News 1st); A delegation of Sri Lankan officials left for Russia early this morning to investigate the involvement of retired military personnel from Sri Lanka in the Russia-Ukraine war.

The delegation includes State Minister of Foreign Affairs Tharaka Balasuriya, Members of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara and Gamini Waleboda, Defense Secretary Retired General Kamal Gunaratne, and former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Dr. Saman Weerasinghe.

They are scheduled to meet with Russia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Minister of Defense.

These discussions will take place over the next two days.

MP Gamini Waleboda stated that the talks will focus on the challenges faced by Sri Lankan retired military personnel participating in the war.
