COLOMBO (News1st); The Colombo High Court released former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal in a case related to investing in Greek bonds.
The case was filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, alleging that the government suffered a loss of Rs.1.84 billion by investing in Greek bonds in 2012.
Another four individuals named as defendants in the case along with Cabraal, were also released on Friday (31).
They were released of the relevant charges after considering preliminary objections filed by the defense attorneys.
They pointed out that this case was filed 10 years after the Supreme Court issued a determination regarding the incident.
The defense attorneys also pointed out that the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had signed the charge sheet before he was appointed to the post.
After considering these facts, the court ordered the accused to be released from the case.
